Pug 3008 SUV

http://www.peugeot.co.uk/showroom/new-3008/suv/

Test drove this today.. :D ..... now I have to wait until I can have my new toys!

My trusty focus will be disappearing, and this will become the big car - my old focus being a leather seat comfort barge rather than a racing machine.

Both the wife and I test drove this, which gave me chance to both drive and sit in the back. Although we're going for the 1.6 automatic 6 speed, it has more torque/hp than my old 1.8 tdci (mainly because it has 4 valves/cylinder etc). The ride is harder than I'd expected (my focus) but is decent, masses of leg space (I'm 6'4 with 34" leg).

You know exactly what the difference is. First off I stated that I'd bought one in a thread already discussing Audis.

I'm pretty certain it was you yourself Fox that always harps on about "if all you want is praise and congratulations" post in a single marque forum. I'm not certain what else one should expect when posting they've bought a brand new French crossover, with what appears to be a square steering wheel?

I can't think of a situation where the best solution was a brand new 3008.

Not a fan of any sort of SUV myself, but that does look pretty cool. I like how the French makers are adopting futuristic design cues both inside and out.

You could say the same for anyone that buys an S3, what led you to buying the not best in its class car?

Onto the OP car, my sisters other half has a 61 plate one and my word you get a lot of car for the money - loads of space and storage and comfy to be in, having never looked at one before his I thought it was a nice enough car and perfect for the job of hauling kids around!

My neighbour works for Peugeot and had one of these on his drive, they look quite cool inside and out. I had a quick snoop of the engine and is it right the 1.6 diesel is between 100-120bhp? Hope it doesn't feel too gutless.

Both Pug and Citroen have started to really find their way again in the last couple of years (which I guess is no surprise given the link).

good choice Nick, it is the best small suv crossover atm. i am thinking you could have also gone for the 1.2 GT spec automatic as that also seems to be a great choice. Post back a review when you get it

Yup, I did some calculations vs the 1.8 focus - more torque/power to weight that with the additional height is as good.

Focus 1.8 manual is 280 Nm (207 ft·lb), 1374 kg kerb weight, CO2 137.0 g/km
3008 1.6 auto is 300 Nm (221 ft·lb), 1315Kg kerb weight, CO2 108 g/km

The weight is about the same as the focus, although the size/wind resist will be more purely from the size. It will probably loose some high end speed but the 6 speed makes the acceleration decent.

Some quite impressive tech on that car. The digital dash is especially nice.

It's really weird - both the touch panel and the dash are completely digital. The sat nav can be routed onto the dash in front of the driver.

Odd things are - it recognises road speed limit signs too, the lane sensing etc. The 3D picture of the car's surroundings on the reversing is weird - I only went for the 180 rear camera (standard on the Allure spec) as the mirrors are really clear too. I also added the leather and LED lights etc but I'm not worried about the traction control (requires specific wheels too).

Driving the auto gearbox and engine stop-start is really seamless. And I mean really seamless.. compared to stop-start I've seen before - perhaps a new generation of the technology.

does it come with android auto and apple car play as standard ? what's the automatic like a standard cvt ?

Test drove this last Friday with pops and although looks nice and the 'cockpit' is initially cool, decided against it.

He has ordered a 2017 Octavia estate 2.0 TDi SEL instead, should be ready by May.

Airplay and android play - yes as standard. There's a cordless charger option although it has USB and a set of 12V points so a 12V USB charger works. Funny that the GTLine+ has a 230V socket option for laptops etc too.
The auto is 6 speed so it's no CRV style changeless but works nicely (no feeling) and works really well with the stop-start engine (this works really well - even on hills and at junctions). With the auto you get the paddle mode too.. but to me the main thing is it drives from a to b in comfort with space inside and the option of adding all the holiday stuff, the fishing stuff, the bikes etc..

@hyperseven - the mrs hates estates (shape), hence it's either a large hatchback (i.e. focus) or SUV. However I can appreciate the Octavia choice given what I've seen of the friends cars.

The boot in it is spacious too, with the added option we have of the roof bars so a roof rack is possible without clamping onto the doors or cutting into the roof (yep you have to cut into the roof with the focus to expose the roof rack mounting points).

I'd looked at all the premium ones - audi, merc, bmw, and mitsubishi, etc but this was a decent drive, I can see with the GLC there's a difference in interior but the merc had an old design 2+litre diesel and 9 speed auto but the quality of the leather and muffling etc is likely to be better in the longer term (although not 12-20K better!).

There are some dumb options.. like the sports mode also uses the stereo to make more noise.. and the idea of perfume & moods on the dash.. hmm to me that's a bit meh.
As long as I can see dials, and satnav without having to constantly change my attention plus the things like auto brakes to stop you hitting the car/person in front are all good in my view but not the be-all to the sale.

Easy driving, considering the size and the country & dual carriageway we tried. Couple that with the internal space that can handle having the older generation with dodgy legs and the younger inside without a problem. It's pretty but not flash, hence it's not going to leave the mercs and range rovers in a smoking trail at the traffic lights but it does get looks from the drivers..
