Love how the devs said it's not really possible and it would break immersion, Errrrrrrr, The whole point of 21:9 is immersion XD

While I have an X34 ultrawide, what they meant actually makes sense. That narrow view that comes from a flashlight is restrictive and certainly adds to the cramped feeling. Adding a wider FOV takes away from that
 
I wish I wasn't on the last boss already!

Maybe restart time with a higher difficulty? (was playing on normal)

yeah cramped house narrow passages and small rooms
 
Hmm even this latest fix isn't perfect. Whilst the aspect ratio is now correct, the zoom factor is too much. FOV 90 does not feel like how 90 should be, too cropped in. Feels dizzying when moving around.
