02 or T-mobile

o2 from what I've read. T-Mobile coverage is apparently ok in a city but useless when travelling around between masts etc. I've just ordered a Virgin Mobile sim (which uses t-mobile masts) just to test the coverage, so I'll let you know.

That said, o2 aren't offering the Desire until the end of April at the earliest, so you'll either have to wait or get it sim-free which ain't cheap.

It depends where you are I guess. o2 I think are much much better with coverage than T-Mobile, but then I found o2's customer service to be abysmal.

On the other hand, I could never get signal with T-Mobile pretty much anywhere (anywhere being Birmingham, Gloucestershire/South Wales), but their customer services were amazing.

I think O2 are only offering 500MB internet for contracts but T-Mobile give 3GB. Worth checking into that one with regards O2 (the T-Mobile figure is definitely correct for Android phones).

I've moved from Vodafone to T-Mobile after going the opposite way two years ago and coverage is just as I left it - inferior to Vodafone and a bit sketchy.

Obviously take it with a pinch of salt. I decided to go with Vodafone for my next contract, as they have good signal in all the places I go.

If you can, I would get a few pay and go simcards with each provider just to see if you get good coverage. It might cost you 20-30 quid, but it's probably worth it if it saves you from signing a long contract with a provider that offers you no coverage.

Signal quality always depends on where you live, for me o2 has been great for signal, wherever I am.

If I was a new customer though I'd be more tempted by t-mobile as there deals these days are generally better than what o2 offers.

T-mobile is excellent in cities and town, once you get into the sticks then they have less coverage, I 've had a t-mobile contract for the past 3 years. O2 has the widest coverage but data speeds are slower due to large demand on the network. Once T-mobile merges with Orange that should help with coverage and bandwidth.

I find T-Mobile is much better for me, on my tube journey I can browse at HSDPA speeds (overground of course) :p

I think it's partially down to the phone as well as my T-Mobile Pulse kept dropping out but my Milestone's connection is rock sold.

O2, ill never use T-Mobile again. I had to payto get out of a contract with them about 2 years ago as their coverage was so bad I couldnt get a signal in my own home, and its nto like I live in the middle of nowhere, im about 2 miles outside fo Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I've got a contract with t-mob, work phone on voda and my iPhone on o2.
T-mob: crap in old thick walled buildings and supermarkets, fine everywhere else
voda: good average all over I'd say, but get a lot of network busy tones
o2: coverage is good all round I would say

as for passing between cells And stuff, I'd say t-mob is miles better than o2. O2 has a huge blackspot from Bristol parkway to the Severn tunnel and takes ages to re register once out from either side. T-mob phone connects as soon as out of tunnel.

Blackspot: t-mob seems to have more in general in my experience so far, but integration with orange will improve this lots

I'm on T mobile (htc desire) as of last Thursday. Signal has been ok for me in most areas of the west midlands I've been to. First 2 days I had no signal in my house but its now fine everywhere apart from the kitchen.

No changes in settings and I was seriously considering sending it back then it just started working :S

The coverage checker comes up as 'very good' and I'd agree that was accurate so its worth doing.

My net speed is good but like others say it is down to where you live

Have a look on the t-mobile website to see how good(or bad) coverage is where you live/work?
I live in a town in the country and t-mobile/virgin is the only network I get decent signal with in my house.

I live in Chesterfield and was on O2. Swapped over to T-Mobile on friday and went for the Desire. On O2 I had full bars, on T-Mobile I have anything from 0 bars to full bars, mainly 2-3. Not dropped a call yet so I suspect the signal may be switching between something. Call quality is better than the Iphone.

With T-Mobile it can only get better with the Orange merger.
