On o2's site it says that this bolt on can only be used for internet, does this mean i cant use msn messenger?

unless it say' u can't use it for messenger, it should be fine, cus messenger does just use the internet!

if you want to make sure, just e-mail them but as far as i know, but should be find as far as i know.

Hi there,

About the O2 Data bolt on for £7.50, what size are we talking about when it says 'unlimited' as a contract bolt on?

Is it a 1GB?

The O2 Web Bolt On can only be used for internet browsing on your phone. A fair use policy applies and if your usage substantially exceeds that of other users, which is normally expected to be below 200MB/month, you will be charged standard rates for additional browsing. We will send you a warning text message advising you to limit your usage before this occurs and a text message to confirm when you are being charged

Still seems to be one according to here

Data Bolt On Terms
The Web Bolt On allows you unlimited use of O2 UK's Edge/GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers
If O2 reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this policy O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission, remove the Web Bolt On from your account or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

I visit quite a few site and found this bit of news released today.

O2 has announced a new and simplified pricing structure for its mobile phone services. This includes a £1 per day flat rate tariff for mobile web browsing from your handset as standard on all new consumer Pay Monthly price points.

The maximum customers will pay is £1 if they browse more than 20-25 pages in a day. Below this, they will pay approximately 4-5p per page. More regular data users can opt for the Unlimited Web Bolt On at £7.50 per month:

Sally Cowdry continued, “Unlimited will mean unlimited on O2. As long as customers use our services as they are intended – for example, their fingers to text and their handset to browse – and do not affect quality for others, they can do as much as they like without having to worry. We believe we are the only company in the market to be so open around fair use.”

Typically an excessive use policy applies to all unlimited products; usage must be for private, personal & non-commercial purposes. Customers may not use their SIM Card in, or connected to, any other device including modems; to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers. Hmm.

well i've been using msn for the past couple of days, so until i get a text from them, i assume it's all good, not been downloading using it

Isnt this just wap though not web..when i tried this a while ago i could only access wap pages on my kaiser ...no matter what settings i used.

I think its possible through a proxy though.

no you cant use msn messenger, its against o2's T+C's ....

lol ;)

msn uses hardly any bandwidth at all, i've got the o2 web bolt on and i've used msn on my phone plenty of times, they won't charge you a thing for that

I did ring o2 and ask what this 'unlimited' actually meant since i have the unlimited texts and o2 calls as well...

unlimited web bolt on = 200mb
unlimited texts = 2000 txts
unlimited o2 to o2 calls = 2000 mins

BUT they said when you are near the limit they will send you a text to notify you, when you go over you will still not be charged in the first month you go over, or the second month but if you go over in the third, you will get charged. If I ever get charged for my bolt-ons, texts, or minutes, I will give them hell on the phone :)

Sorry, just to add, I've just noticed you are talking about the payg bolt on, I'm talking about the contract one but I doubt there is any difference.

See now I was told when I rang and queried what would happen when I went over was that if I went over one month then I wouldnt get charged, if I went over 3 months in a row then they would send me a letter warning me that if I did it again I would be charged.
Ive had mine on the 7.50 bolt on now since January, and I am on the net a hell of a lot, but ive not been charged any more than the 7.50.....guess I have to see in another month.
