Hi All,
My other half is 250~ miles away visiting parents, and the nearside outer CV joint on her 2003 Skoda Fabia 1.2 (54hp Manual Petrol) has turned to chunky powder.
In 10 years of driving I have always done my own repairs, so I know the parts cost £30-£120 depending on single joint replacement or whole new axle and joints - but I have no idea how much its reasonable for a garage to charge for the work including labor ?
The car is with their local "friendly" garage of choice at the moment (back street friend of a friend type) but they are likely to pay whatever he says (because he is such a good guy, of course) - and since its ultimately coming out of my pocket - I want to avoid getting stiffed by proxy...
Estimates on a postcard ?
(For those wondering, the problem has been brewing for a couple of days as a click on right turns, but it has now turned into hopping, grinding and tugging on the steering during right turns. Interestingly it sounds like the gaiter is in one piece, so I can only assume the cage shattered at a low speed and the parts inside haven't had the chance to escape by force)
