0844 Call costs from BT line?

Finally got my BT line reactivated yesterday.

My broadband wont be activated until the 2nd Feb so ive dug an old V92 modem out of my bits box and uded an orange internet CD to get a payg dial up service until the broadband goes live ( God id forgotten how slow dial up is )

Anyway, its dials up using an 0844 number ( was expecting it to be 0845 ) so im wndering how much per minute its costing me. Im on the basic £11 per month BT line rental.

0844 are a strange bunch, usually used for internet services, though not always. Its called "Special Services basic rate" and has a max of 5p per min. They do vary in price, but are usually a little more than local rate.

EDIT: They are not the same price as local rate... they can be up to 5p per min, local rate can't - its max is currently 3p per min.

0844 is a non geo graphical local rate number the same cost as a 0845.
