Hi!

I have a 2009 Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.6 TDCI. Just recently it has started to develop a small problem. At random times, when driving, I think the turbo just cuts out, so I lose a lot of power delivery to the engine. Aside from that, the car drives absolutely fine, but it's quite strange.

Stopping and starting the engine immediately fixes this problem, and then the car may drive as normal for a few days, it really depends.

Does anyone know what can cause this? Any advice would be appreciated and obviously I plan on taking it to a Ford garage at some point.

Thanks in advance.

why worry ?

Its under ford warranty, and you'll probably get a another courtesy fiesta while yours is in the garage :D

It could be a boost leak in one of the air hoses somewhere, it could be a problem with the turbo, it could be a problem somewhere in the various components that control / do the ignition. Could be all sorts.

As mentioned may just be an leak somewhere, it's quite common on a lot of our old 1.8 TDCi Focus' at work (even though it's a different engine). :p

Had a couple of turbos problems with the 1.6 engine, major parts suppliers refused to sell a turbo, apparently there is a major problem with the oil supply to the turbo causing failure. There is supposed to be TSB issued by Ford to overcome the problem, I think its something like replace the engine.
