The iPhone dev team has achieved 1.1.3 jailbreak on both the iPhone AND the iPod Touch. The jailbreak solution has NOT been released to the public, and according to them will not be until February when the SDK releases, that way Apple doesn't get to see the method, and break it before the SDK releases - jailbreak + SDK = awesome app functionality, for that free price we've all come to love for iPhone applications (but always remember - if you like an app, DONATE!!)

Not long now :)

So if I buy the iPhone handset for £269, could I unlock it to work on O2 pay as you go (or is it O2 contract only)? How do I get the pay as you go sim card in (if it can be done), its a sealed unit isn't it?

No, it's removable, there is a slot on the top.

Yes you can unlock it, providing it is on 1.1.2 firmware.

Have a look at the Sticky.

I wouldn't do it yet though, it has been released without full permission by all the devs and most people are getting errors with it.

It's worth holding off for a a few more days to see what happens.

Edit: this version also isn't supported by the Dev team, as it was leaked out by a team member who has now been kicked off the team. (As Ol!ver has said.) It's very buggy and there is a high chance that it will brick your iPhone.
