I want to do a complete copy of my current hard drive to my new 1tb drive and was wondering what program people use? Is it simple to do? And will I be able to boot up fine from the brand new drive once I have done the copy. I am using vista 64bit

no, even a drive copy may not work.
at least for me when i copied xp and vista to a new drive xp worked but vista needed a reinstall.

Your drive makers allmost certainly have a program to clone a disc for free.

Drive utilites also tend to come free on magazine cover discs.

You do need to be careful about attaching the 2 drives at the same time after cloning as confusion can arise as to which is the boot disc etc.

Attach both, clone disc, detach old disc and repalce new disc on the same sata cable to help maximise the chances of it working.

you may alos have to make a new partition or expand the cloned on on your new disc as the clone will be the same size as the old one if its a true clone

paragon hard drive manager is also pretty good

I agree , Paragon gave out 2 of there programs for free a couple of years ago , one was a Backup program and the other was cloning program .Both are excellent and I can recommend the hard drive manager , I dont think it's called that but it makes a perfect copy from one drive to the other in very quick time .

Another vote for Acronis True Image here.

When i built my system, i made 2 partition in my hdd, 1 for OS and the other one for data, programs, etc. I put 50gb for OS and the rest for data. But after i installed Vista 64, noticed that 50gb wasn't enough in the future as when installed games, programs, etc even in my other partition, it still install in OS partition as well. So i had to make exact copy from the data drive partition and put it to my external hdd and join the OS partition and data partition together and then copy the image back after i altered the partition :)
