i have a cheap brand but fully working led projector, only paid £10 and like brand new included everything, anyways i tested it out on my Xbox one against a wall/wardrobe and was okay lol, it supports full hd with I think only 4:9 & 16:9 ratios, but I want a stand alone screen for it and so I’m looking at manual screens on stands and found a used one for £30, good price or not I don’t know, however they put it as a 37”x37” size.

Conversion puts it at 93.98 inchesif I did it right, but aspect wise puts it at 1:1, now from reading, these were for OHP types and sliders, but can be used for personal uses, trouble is what I read states OHP still, but mine is one I will rest of top of a slim dvd tower as it’s that small..

would I make the mistake buying this screen type?

It be in my bedroom so not a great amount of space hence one on a stand to easy put away, I’ve had cheapo projectors before, but never got as far as buying proper screens, so abit stuck.

Ha thanks for clearing up the size, 37”x37” is what the seller quoted so I had to look to see what it mean and I suppose from your comment of ‘might As well buy a tv’ that these screens were only really suitable for office/classroom stuff.

Thing is I have a 32” tv and a 24” in my room, the projector screen idea was for a bit of fun having never owned on, but if the actual size is under 60”, that’s smaller than what I assumed and wouldn’t look too big in my room..

could be interesting and rather pay £30 than hundreds I don’t have for a tv equivalent i don’t need ha, but I am still concerned about how good an image I could get on such a thing? Ideally want to connect my Pi to it for retro games, but also my Xbox one as it’s in the right place to where the screen would be.

Projectors can't really compete with a tv in the same size bracket, just looked on gumtree and found 42inch for 70 quid.
With regards the screen you've found I'd be concerned about the white bars top and bottom on a 16:9 image because of the 1:1 screen ratio washing the image out more, possible edge curling (our office screen is really bad for this).
I think if your really wanting to try the pj best cheap option would be paint a screen on the wall with (I'll edit this with paint name as soon as I remember it).

I did think of making my own, but painting the wall is no option unfortunately as it’s not my house, but I will be looking at something diy when I do get my own place, for now though I want a stop gap solution of a tripod stand screen as I can’t leave it up all the time. I already own a 46” tv that’s at my ex’s house, but it’s too big for my current room hence why I have a 32 & a 24(32 is main tv for sky).

I could probably move something to shine it on the wall like I did with my last more worse pj I had, but at an angle from where I’d be viewing from, however I would like to get a suitable screen still, doesn’t have to be like over 70”, just something that will display the image more properly.

OHP (overhead projection) doesn't mean "ceiling mounted". It refers to the type of classroom projector known by the generic term "OHP" where the teacher would use clear acetate film sheets IMAGE LINK Any matte white projection screen will work okay for a projector on a table or ceiling mounted. It makes no difference. The OHP reference is to do with the shape of the screen; the 1:1 aspect ratio which is what was needed for OHP and slide projectors.

£30 for a used square format projector screen might have been a decent price 10 years ago or more, and it might be a really nicely made OHP screen, but in today's world of cheap Chinese imports of 4:3 and 16:9 screens it doesn't look great value. I'm seeing selling prices of £50 new for something 1:1 but bigger brand new, and used prices of anything from £1-£15 for similar sized 40" 1:1 screens second-hand.

Have a look at Ebay item #122950162461. It's not on your doorstep but it gives you an idea of some of the stuff available if you look around.

Thanks for reply, yeah I know what OHP is, we had them in school, I meant to imply mine wasn’t anything of the sort..

Okay that sounds reasonable, I do question used prices even for bigger screens and haven’t looked at new screen prices for ages, I was just hoping to collect than order, but I will scout the net for new prices then compare them with used, If this was years ago when I had the space then it be a no brainer, I’m just hoping for smaller size than the norm while actually being worth while... thanks for the link I will check eBay and compare.
