I'm trying to find a cheap car rental for a couple of days (max).
Picking up Chester 18/03 (ideally 17/03), Dropping off Stanstead Airport 19/03.

Need something like a Focus or larger as it has to transport 3 adults with some luggage.

I've tried Hertz and Easycar but both have come back with £80+(!) which I think is a bit excessive.

We'd also need the same thing for the return trip, I presume the same company would offer good rates for that also?

Appreciate any tips, cheers

some places are really fussy about your age, some you have to be 25 others you have to be 21, it will say in the terms, also watch the group of car some have age restrictions on them :)

when i get a loan car (for business use) the company pay £34 a day then we insure it ourselves, thats for a Audi A4 or similar car.

Yeah, some places charge a supplement (~£20 a day) for younger drivers also.

carrentals.co.uk is so far the cheapest at £60 for an automatic astra :o

It also appears that most places charge a one-way supplement @ an extra £30+.

All in I'm having trouble finding one under £100 all in, each way!

Christ, I think I'll start up my own...

National usually do me good if I need to rent a car (apart from the absolutely hateful renault laguna they gave me the other week.... horrible horrible car).

I'd not expect much change from £100 for a one way hire though.

As it would seem, I naively didn't expect it to be that much.

I might just knick some exotica and dump it in the airport car park :p

It's still going to be cheaper than the alternative for 3 adults.

£100 between three of you is only £33 each, you'll probably only need one tank of petrol (maybe less) so it's still likely to work out cheaper (and easier) than public transport

That's not entirely the case though.

Basically I wanted to keep my car at home as it's for sale and anyone that wanted to view it could do so. Also, at the other end we have free parking but it involves a train journey to Stanstead (about 30mins, not sure on cost).

Someone else can drive, space in a 206 should be fine but there's maybe an extra passenger on the way back :p

I found it cheaper to pay the hire company for the car only and get the insurance from Day Insure, this is due to the age problems and them wanting to surcharge me to hell and back.. so prehaps look at how much it is without insurance?

I've not seen any options to skip the insurance?

Which company did you use?

Sixt have been great for me with vans, so i'd imagine they are similar for cars. I've also used Enterprise with great success. Both are cheap and offer good services.

You will find ALL places have a 1 way surcharge, and many have young driver surcharges too!
