Hi,

I'm looking to spend about £1,500 - £2,000 on a new-build gaming PC (including monitor).

Aside from gaming, I mainly just browse the web, stream or download online TV/films/music - I don't do any image/video editing or self-streaming.

In terms of storage, I would estimate I'd want about 1.5-2TB total.

I don't quite understand the whole VR thing at the moment, but it's something I might consider in the future (although I assume any new PCs now will be VR-ready?).

I could wait a few weeks if existing components would become significantly cheaper / new ones better then, as I have read in a few other threads.

I wouldn't be looking to build it myself.

As you may have already gathered, I have no real technical knowledge so if you have further questions, please phrase them in a computer-illiterate friendly manner ;).

Which games are you going to be playing and what is the resolution of your monitor to be? And do you have any specific monitor requirements, like 21:9 or 120 Hz?

You clearly already have a PC, so are there parts (like a HDD) that you can transfer?

Hi

Here is a spec with a 2560 x 1440 G-Sync Monitor.

You can change things about if the Monitor is too big/expensive etc. Same goes with the graphics card. The GTX 980/970 would be the next step down price wise if you want an Nvidia card.

I didn't add a mouse/keyboard/speakers as I didn't know if you needed those items.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,778.91
(includes shipping: £28.02)

Once you have decided on what you want, then you can post the basket in the customer services section at the top of the forum to get a build quote.

The GTX 980 ti is poor value for money now that the GTX 1070 is out.

its what comes with the bundle, but tbh everything ive read so far, the 1070 isnt worth the bother currently for its price point, but im sure if the op liked that build they could ask to change the gpu.

The GTX 1070 out performs the GTX 980 ti for £100+ less. How is it not worth the bother ?

lol because of all the reading and pricing, even people who own 980ti and can afford 1070/1080 are not jumping ship because of that.

anyways it was the best prebuilt system from that category that fitted inside the budget with a monitor, yeah fine i chose 4K aimed stuff, but if you got the money you might aswell go all out.

This is a new build though not an upgrade. If the op already had a 980 ti then I wouldn't suggest the GTX 1070, but he is starting from scratch. Not sure how hard it is to understand.

Hello, sorry for the late reply and thanks to those who have already posted suggestions.

To answer a few questions raised;
  • My current build is almost 8 years old, and apart from a graphics card and RAM upgrade a few years ago is untouched and therefore I assume not worth attempting to reuse any existing parts.
  • It terms of games played, due to a combination of work/life events (and having an old PC) I haven't really bought a 'big' game since GTA 5 (which my PC can just about run but takes forever to load).. However, now that I hopefully have a bit more time to game again, from looking at what's out there now/soon, stuff like Far Cry, The Division, Doom, Deus Ex, Mafia.
  • I'd like a monitor to be 4K but other than that no real requirements at the moment (as I currently don't understand them and need to read up some more...

I don't quite understand the reason for the big cost difference between the two monitors people have posted;
  • AOC U2879VF 28" 3840x2160 TN 4K 60Hz 1MS = £289.99
  • Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync 165Hz = £599.99

To my (totally un-knowledgeable) eyes, the top/cheaper monitor seems better in every way except the refresh rate?

From what I've since googled about refresh rates, the main benefit is for 'smoother' playing - and therefore predominately for FPS games?

However, I've also read that the 1080 card (or 1070 for £/performance) appears to be the best card available at the moment - but, if playing in 4K, wouldn't be able to hit 60fps (on it own) and therefore, if playing in 4K, there's no advantage in having a higher Hz monitor?

If the above is correct, then is it essentially a choice between playing in 4K on a lower fps or slightly less good graphics and a higher fps/Hz monitor?

I've also read that the 1070/80 card are currently 'Founders Editions' which means Nivida-only with no other companies currently allowed to release editions of the card... is there a typical timescale for when that usually happens and/or an average amount prices drop by? Is it worth the wait?

Finally, are the 1070/80 compatible with each other? If I bought a 1070 now and then waited for the price of 1080s to drop could I hook them both up together?

its not hard to understand, but i dont make the pre-builts do i and given the op wants just that then the one i chose is the best for budget to include compatible monitor, its down to the buyer to ask the questions about the new line ups ;)
