lo, well ive been running for about 7 weeks now and ive got my 1.5 mile run time down from not being able to run that far to 16 mins then today i did just under 13 mins. Ive got a interview for my army selection 2 day assessment in a week and then after that ill have about 3 - 4 weeks untill i go to catterick. On the 2 day assesment ill be expected to run 1.5 miles in 10.5 mins. i run every day and i can feel myself improving im just wondering tho will i be able to get my time down from 13 mins to 10.5 in a month or there abouts ?

regards,
Andy

You really need to be running 3 miles anyway mate. The actual test is a 1.5 mile 'warm-up' followed by a 1.5 mile personal best. It's the personal best that has to be under 10.5mins.

I've always aimed for 9mins 30sec because that was the limit to get into the Paras. When I got it down to 8mins 45sec I kinda got bored and stopped running because I'd reached my goal...

10.5mins should be easily achievable though mate - I was able to shave off 30 seconds a day every day for the first week when I was doing it. It get's harder after that but you've just got to push yourself, eat and sleep correctly.

Good luck with the selection.

ty every one for help i think ill start running a abit further but i know for a fact its 100meters warmup then 1.5 miles. you may be thinking of the royal marines where you do 1.5 miles in 11.5 mins then another 1.5 miles in under 10 min.

also yes i know that after selection you have to run 3+ miles but mileage has never been my downfall speed has :D

incorrect it for all arms forces, you have to do a pre-joining test to see how your basic fitness is, on tredmill at a gym.

then depending on the force you then do a proper fitness test ie the PRMC or POC which is very much harder and useally involves 1-3+days of PT.

have they changed it then? do you now have to do 3 miles on the tredmill then?

if so is it like the PRMC, ie, 12:30 first half then 10:30 second?

i failed my first 3 miler sinse i got terrible cramp and screwed my leg up during that first half, to slow--.-- couldnt stretch out on 12:30

tell us how it goes though, and what training programme you doing at the moment, i can give you some tips and advise for the PRMC....it is HAAARD......the gym i found easyer, got 75 press ups , :)

incorrect since now i have a date for my 2 day assesment and the army bloke has told me its 100 meters warmup and 1.5 miles in under 10 and a half min ive never been on a treadmill.
