£1,500 go for it

e8400
ip35
geil black dragon 2x2gb
antec p182
corsair hx
8800 gts 768mb
500gb aajs western digital drive
pioneer sata dvd-rw

Hows that?

Is it just the base unit for the money or do you need anything else such as monitor/OS etc? If it is just the base unit then you are probably overspending since ~£1,000 ought to be more than sufficient.

S and X are pretty close on the keyboard so it could be a simple typo, the performance between the 512mb 8800GTS and 768mb 8800GTX is reasonably close anyway, particularly if the 8800GTS is overclocked. :)

Sorry for intruding, but could you quote the ~£1000ish rig that is border on overspending?
- No monitor, mouse etc. Im looking to get high FPS on recent/2008 games (overclocking is well).

Thanks.

I'm not totally sure on the motherboard, it might not be the best for overclocking Wolfdales but if you are happy with dual core then this system should be good for a very nice overclock. You could just as easily swap in quad core for ~£25 more and there would still be room in the budget.

Not really top end in terms of cash cost but when you think on a price/performance level they are certainly very, very good. My point before was simply that to get a system offering at least 90% of the performance you don't need to spend much more than 60-70% of the cost. :)

ok ive narrowed it down, i need a motherboard and graphics, got about 400/500 to spend on that. should i wait for the 9800s? if so....what motherboard shall i get in the mean time... its nvidea cards only.. not n ati man, may do SLi in the future.

ok graphics are chosen..

need a motherboard...no SLi. using a nvidia card... max £250 on the motherboard 1066 on ram :) , want the best out ;< .

any ideas? ill prob be overclocking the cpu
