Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a 1.5TB USB hard drive. I've tried two different ones (a Seagate FreeAgent and a Seagate 1.5TB drive in a USB caddy), and both cause the same problem. The computer is running Windows Server 2003 SBS.

If I plug them into a USB 2.0 port on the motherboard, the computer locks up and will not respond (ie., My Computer opens but stays "white" and doesn't list the drives, Computer Management does the same). In the event log, I see lots of ATAPI errors stating something along the lines of: "The drive did not respond within the specified time"

On an XP machine, they are detected fine. Has anyone come across this kind of thing?

Cheers,
Matt

Wasn't there as problem with the Seagate 1.5Tb drives. Something that causes the HD to not respond for a while - not too sure of the details...

I believe that they issued a firmware update for these drives that fixed this sort of issue. I'm sure somebody can confirm this.
