I had a look but cannot see a thread based around a swim challenge.

Simple really, fastest time for 1600m.

I got mine on Sunday, 29:05 (1:49 pace / 100m) I did stop a couple of times briefly to empty water out my goggles. This was an indoor pool swim in a 20 m pool.

My aim is to be able to swim the ironman distance indoor (3.86km / 2.4 miles) However getting faster at 1600m then 2km will no doubt be of help :)

25 minutes in a 50m pool for me

That's my average time for 1600m in my usual 3200m session in the mornings. I'd probably be able to hit 24 minutes if I was just going for the 1600m and no more, and then maybe cut another minute off in a 25m pool.

My best iron-man distance in a 50m pool is 1 hour exactly.

For someone that last swam a mile when they were 9 or 10 and hasn't done any swimming at all since 1999... what's the best way to get into it again for fat loss / endurance training. I don't really care about speed (yet).

My local pool is terrible - we had a 25m pool, built in the 60s. It fell down in the 90s and was replaced with a "leisure pool". It has a wave machine in it and is about 0.6m deep at the shallow end. Last time I tried to swim there I kept banging my knees on the bottom, so I'm going to go somewhere with a proper pool (probably 25m) before work on a morning.

Actually I did try to swim a few years ago in the gym pool, but managed about 8 lengths before I went to sit in the sauna.
