Hi guys,

My Octavia 1.8T vRS has starting surging a bit recently. It's only now and then but happens when I apply 3/4 throttle, full throttle is fine.

It surges forward and if you take your foot off it jerks back a bit.

I doubt it's anything serious but takes away from the smoothness....

So far it's been suggest it could be

MAF
N75 valve

Anyone know much about the 1.8T engine and this problem? There seems to be plenty of threads on it but no decent answer / route of fixing!!

Cheers :D

I'm sure you have already but have you read through the sticky on Briskoda?

Mine sometimes has a flutter when I change gear just as the turbo starts to spool. Biggest problem I'm finding is the splutter when cold. Jerks up the road like a good 'un until the temp guage starts moving.

EDIT- yours is running at a higher than standard boost isn't it? Maybe thats finished off your recirc valve? Is it dumping smoothly or fluttering?

Mines fine when cold really smooth!

It's when in gear between 2800-3500rpm normally, if I floor it it's fine just 3/4 which is weird.

I've got a new DV on it a "Hyperboost HX Compact Diverter Valve by Stratmosphere" which was fitted about a month ago. It started after, not straight after though. I also fitted a panel filter but I doubt very much it'd be that!

Probably doesn't help that I really feather the throttle when its first started and shift before 2k to stop the turbo spooling up :o

Shouldn't be the DV then as long as its dumping smoothly and not fluttering.

Vag-com not give any clues?

Nope, no error codes and they didn't pick anything up at Skoda on my service last week.

I could just start replacing bits but it's not THAT bad and I don't have the money to chuck at it...but if I can fix it for say £50 I would.

Yea, I tend to change below 2.5k for the first 10 minutes- always good practice with a turbo imo.

Ah I was just going to suggest N75 valve, had mine in t'other day for the same surging thing and they diagnosed it as the N75. Going in in a week or two to get it sorted out.

I'm afraid i don't have much idea what else it'd be, though as thingymabob lordrobs said, briskoda is a goodun!

Good luck getting it sorted, i'd be interested to know what the problem is.

Hmm, might ring up my local dealer and see what cost they'd charge for a new N75, they're £41 to buy... don't really fancy really fitting it myself though.
