1 Billion Apple apps?

50% of the apps are either crap or only used once.
Still impressive selling 1 billion in a year (or less?)

1bn in 9 months.

I see the fabled iFart got onto the front page of most downloads of all time..

Although I suspect that Apple will announce some bad financial progress due to the market down turn.. although I think I'll still be in the market for the next version of iPhone..

What I find utterly perplexing is that NO other mobile company thought of doing this before Apple - now they are trying to play catchup!

I have an N95 8GB and while I can install many applications on it freely (most paid apps though are IMEI-locked which means change your phone and you lose your application which is HORRIBLE) discovering them is a royal pain. The answer is so obvious yet it took Apple to do it. Crazy :p

The one billionth app, Bump created by Bump Technologies, was downloaded by Connor Mulcahey, age 13, of Weston, CT. As the grand prize winner of Apple’s one billion app countdown contest, Connor will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro.

I think being able to use the already widespread iTunes (client software and service) as the hub is what made it possible.
