Breaking on the BBC at the minute

Yahoo has said more than one billion user accounts may have been affected in a hacking attack dating back to 2013.
The US multinational technology company said an unauthorised third party had stolen the data, including names, emails, phone numbers and dates of birth.
It said it believed the incident was separate from its previously disclosed breach affecting 500 million users.
That hack took place in 2014 but was only made public in September.

Wow.

Not sure if it's worth closing my account or not.

Damn typo, could a mod fix it?

This could be useful as I can never remember my Flickr password and need to change it pretty much every time it asks me to log in.

Oh noes, they might have my throwaway email account along with the fake name and date of birth associated with it. Whatever will I do?

ETA: The BBC news site is ****ing retarded, so there I am reading the article when the dreaded 'BREAKING NEWS' pop-up appears to tell me about the article I actually have open.

My only association with yahoo is flickr. I'll just find an alternative to post pics i guess.

This folks is why the Investigatory Powers Bill is up for a full on cyber attack.

Think about it and we only a country of say 80million, here is 1 billion leaks.

It's going to be just glorious when ISPs have to retain a year of browsing history for everyone and they get hacked.

why?
yahoo is hardly the only big company hacked, not even the only one hacked multiple times.

doesn't realy matter who you go with, use unique passwords, use unique recovery answers etc.
much easier places just to get your name and address.

Is this the same one from last time? I cannot keep up with all the sites that seem to be compromised. If not where does all this hacking put Marissa Meyer...

Buying shares in VPN companies as I speak.

You can already hear the clatter of mechanical RGB keyboards as devious minds discuss tactics to fish for the goldmine of names and search histories.

Not that I'm that concerned, I have no public or business reputation that could be threatened by revealing my lederhosen fetish but no doubt there are people quite vulnerable to blackmail.

it's the one from before in 2013 they are just admitting the full extent.

And this is why you don't provide a real date of birth for most websites...*

*Even though I believe it may be technically illegal. The government really need to understand the issues when create "security" related legislation.

Edit: actually that may not be the case - sure there was a law a while ago about it but maybe not. Either way - point still stands, fake DOB and phone number if possible.

Well as long as your partner/parents/children/mates already know it's not an issue :D.

Don't worry though, all our history that's being collected by ISPs under the Investigatory Powers Act won't be vulnerable at all, honest!
