how is it daft? the Nordschleife is a much more dangerous and tricky track for multiclass racing than castle combe will ever be especially this year when it was foggy and raining for most of the race.

Combe is not even 2 miles long. So you have faster cars lapping the slow ones within a mere handful of laps. This is how this accident has occurred.

The Nurburgring is around 17 miles, so the cars are spread over a much bigger track and consequently the leaders lap the tail enders far less....

Consider it. Regardless of "track day" experience, there is a guy on his second ever race, in a car with 4 times the power of the majority of the grid, who doesn't even, by his own admission, understand the "etiquette" of the race, which pretty much means he doesn't fully understand the rules. It's a recipe for disaster and he shouldn't really have been allowed on the track.

Exactly. Admitting he didn't know what he was meant to do when he passed the other car off the track was the only thing you can really hold against him. However, that was a completely seperate incident. Saying "yeah but if he'd given the place back he would have been at a different point on the track so the incident wouldn't have happened" is quite a weak argument :o

He's said that if the race officials decide he was at fault for the incident, and lets face it even someone like me with no track experience can see that it was, he will contribute £1000 to the repair of the car. He doesn't have to do that, its a gesture and one I hope he sticks too.

I had a quick look at the vid and it doesnt seem like he can even see the other car, its masked by the other two and so to him it probably wasnt like he was trying to overtake on a corner.

The other two cars were overtaking on a corner, I'd place more blame with them though I have not seen the full vid yet

you are responsible for knowing where you are on the road and the others around you, not the people infront ;]

They overtook on a corner

Possible responses;

1. So you're the one ruining Formula 1 racing?

2. No mate, this isn't drag racing!

3. They have to - the straights at Combe aren't long enough.

4. They could see through the bend and there was no oncoming traffic, officer;)

5. You're supposed to make progress - it's in Roadcraft

etc. etc. etc.

Wondering if there would have been as many posts on differant forums if it wasnt Norris?

I wonder if you'd be defending him so much if it wasn't Norris ;)

The reason this one is spread across so many forums is the dramatic photos of the accident. And then the video spread, and its very clear to see whos fault the accident is, and so, people are commenting on that.

when there are nearly 300 cars on track at the same time they are a lot less spread out than you think.

Doesnt bother me if it was Norris or anyone else.Hardly defending his actions ?? obviously his fault, albeit just a mistake.

Just love the way all these faultless racing drivers pop out of the woodwork that would have done better, which is easy to say when watching a video of the event :p

Safe to say i would be P***** if that was my car... damn i wouldnt be happy, you see him when he gets out? all clam, crawling out... getting safe.

Id be kicking the insides to pieces while swearing like you wouldnt believe, pro driving tbh though...

What did you expect him to do? Stay hanging upside down in the car?

He's put his hands up and said that he feels responsible for the accident and he asked the Pug driver if they were ok straight away. He's also offered to pay for damages.

You take your car on a track, you take a risk.

I read the entire thread before posting and he didn't have to explain it, just edit the original post to say "cut the chicane" or something. If you didn't appreciate the attempt at wit, then I need to be funnier next time obviously.

Mmmm, I think we're saying the same thing although I never actually mentioned the illegal overtake or used it as any excuse. I was only refering to the fact that he was vastly inexperienced for such a powerful car in that particular series, and in that situation such accidents are bound to happen.

My only "what if" scenario is that if he had been running that car in a series of similar spec cars, or he was restricted to a similar spec to the Pug, then the closing speed between the two vehicles would have been much less, and maybe instead of a monster crash, they'd have had a nasty bump.

Hence my comments about requiring more experience to run the high power cars, or doing away with them altogether. So in a way I'm blaming the people who decided that putting a rookie in a 500+bhp car on the same track as 30+ cars with a quarter of the power (leading to what would turn into an overtaking situation every few seconds) would be a good idea :)
