1 DVI port freezing comp

I have a Geforce 7800GTX card and it has been working fine on the right port for 2 years now, never had to use the left port till i just bought a 2nd monitor .i hooked it up to the left port and my mouse/computer keeps freezing and sometimes the screen goes black and freezes for a while...im assuming it is the DVI port because i unplugged the right port and ran 1 monitor with the left port..and nothing changed, still froze up, so i switched back to the right port and it works again....but i still want dual screen. the monitors definitely work fine and im on windows 7 with newest graphics drivers(tried old ones too)
if some1 can help me please, id really appreciate it...i hope the port is not broken as i cant afford a new graphics card

reinstalled driver just now..working better (not freezing) but running really slow and laggy...is this normal?
i think maybe there is something wrong with the left DVI port...
for example when moving a window..its extremly choppy..or even highlighting the X button laggs
i know its not a spec issue because before this driver...it worked very smooth on dual screen...(except from the freezing every few mins), oh and duplicate screen works very smoothly too..just not extend :S

yes...tried the newest ones 2 weeks ago and nothing..and newest one today...its not freezing..but on extend display setting its very choppy and laggy especialy if i open a picture or video...[update: actualy its starting to freeze again when opening a file].on duplicate screen its perfect tho

still messed up....just opening firefox just now...took about 5 mins...first the mouse froze.. then after a min the screen went black...then after few mins came back but mouse was still frozen...
grrr why does this keep happening? :(

[update] just installed new bios...seems to be working better.....for now at least...
could that really be the problem? :|

[update2] crap.. ...worked for 10 mins...now its freezing again every minuite or so..

i dont know what else to try...i dont want to sell my monitor....but dualscreen wont work for me....
if no1 can help me..can u point me to a forum that can please?
 
Well..if the info in the first post remains true.. i.e. a single monitor will work fine in one port, but not in the other, and it's if not a driver problem or bios issue, then that sounds pretty well narrowed down to me..
Other possibility may be windows..if you have no other options, try a full format and reinstall..

Does the same thing happen with Aero off?

If you have a friend with a compatible card, have you tried using theirs in your machine with dual screen?

Otherwise, quite likely to be an issue with the card itself..

i will try turning aero off...and if that doesnt work
then i will try reinstalling windows...
if not that il have to buy a new card :(
didnt really want to spend any money on old cards...
was hoping to just build a new comp next year
