I've got the following rig;

q6600 [email protected]
4x1gb OCZ ram
IP35-Pro
2x320gb HDD
2x500gb HDD
SATA DVD-RW
8800GTX
Corsair 650W PSU

When i boot my machine from cold i get 1 single error beep that lasts about 1 second the instant that i press the power button, however, the machine goes on to post and boot correctly (you get the second 'everything okay beep' after a few seconds) and the machine is prime stable for 8+ hours.

There are no error beeps on a warm boot/reset and as the machine runs without any issues at all i can't decide whether i should just ignore this or whether i should investigate further.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

many thanks

Might be a FAN error thats beeping, i.e. its not spinning fast enough to what the motherboard is happy with. When you reboot the CPU is heated up so the fan is spinning faster (thats if your motherboard controls the fan speed).

My friend has a coolermaster HSF on his 1.86GHz C2D and it doesn't start spinning when he boots up, bios shows a very low temp too :)

Yes I'd imagine that this is the case - I have all my fans, including the CPU fan, slowed and I get a nice reassuring burst of siren for a few seconds when I cold boot as it spins up to speed. Everyone in the house knows when I turn my PC on :D
