So I want xp and win7 on same hard drive.

I put two partitions C: and D:

on C: win xp

I plan to put win 7 on D:

But I think Pc will auto or only boot C: partition?

So how do I boot up the D: win7? when I want to use win7?

Under system commands for boot you can only select hard drive not partitions.

Is there a better way to have 2 OP on 1 hard drive?

It'll work fine.

Just shrink your existing C: partition.
Then make a new NTFS partition in the blank space.
Then just install Windows 7 into the new partition and it'll automatically create the boot loader entries for both XP and 7.

SO you mean on start up itll give me choice

''
you want to boot xp
you want to boot win 7

Highlighted choice will auto boot in 30 seconds
''

kinda thing? Even though the op are on two different partitions on same HDD

I'm pretty sure yeah. If you already have XP on one partition, the Windows 7 installer will recognise it and create the dual-boot loader entry.

Even if it doesn't, you can easily create it later using EasyBCD.

Install XP first - then Windows 7.

If you install windows XP after Windows 7 then it deletes the boot loader and then you'll need to use EasyBCD.
