What would you do, I'm dealing stocks from home so have numerous charts and information on the screen.

In reality 1 large screen could be suffice BUT I'd like to have live TV on at the same time such as Bloomburg and web browsing.

So do I use 2 screens one for TV feed from Sky and ther other for everything else or do I go posh and have a 3 screen setup, triple head?

What are triple head devices like, do they work, do I need more than 1 graphics card - I'm not familiar with 3 display setups so that's probably more my question here, do they work!

Obviously if I had more than 1 display I'd scale down, no point in having 3 large screens, perhaps 3 ~21" screens would be best?

- Not sure about 3 monitors what you'd need if you have a card with VGA / DVI and a built in VGA on the actual pc 3 may work like that.

I was just looking at the Samsung Syncmaster 2343BW, it has a massive resolution so perhaps you're right 2 will be suffice especially as my current system has a dual DVI output.

I was looking at the Matrox 4 display box but its over £200, the price of a screen!

I would have two monitors to work on and a big TV (at least 32") in the background. I prefer Bloomberg in 4:3, so I'd suggest two 4:3 20"s and a 42"-50" TV wall-mounted a couple of metres away. TV will mostly be for background news flow, so you don't really need it in any detail - anything you're keen on you can check out in Bberg.

I have 2X22" and that fits everthing on it.

MSN, Watching Movie, Photoshopping & Coding in dreamweaver. all fits a dream with both monitors at 1680 x 1050

If it helps you can view a Excel 2007 spreadsheet over both monitors @ full screen and you will reach letters AZ on the spreadsheet.

I'm in the same boat, trading from home. Currently I am using 2 x 19" monitors, but would now like to get 4 x 24" or even 6 x 24" so that I can see everything at once. What hardware would I need to be able to do this? Is it just a case of adding graphics cards?

2x24" would be perfect. I currently have 1 24" and 2 x 20" (for sale), connected using my 8800GT (pci-e) and a PCI 7300 GS.

I'm getting rid of the 2 20" screens (Dell 2007WFPs) because I miss the simplicity of a single/dual setup, and also because 24" is the minimum I'd like to use now since I've got so used to the res (my pc is used mainly for audio production).

2 24" screens would be very nice, you'll have a lot of room to work, and if you buy a matching pair then everything will feel clean and flow nicely.

Thanks for the ideas so far, I was thinking of 2x 2343BW 23" because they have that odd (magical) wide 2048 res which means I could fit quite a lot on them.

I keep reading suggestions I should pay the extra and go PVA though, especially if working with desktop apps as appossed to gaming...

shouldnt be a problem with TN screens. if the viewing angle is a problem you can always position it inwards.
