1 red light .....

Google says that it's a hardware failure, specifically the hard drive. It could just be a dodgey/loose connection so unplug everything including your hard drive and leave it for a few minutes, then plug it all back in making sure everything is properly connected. Try the console without the hard disk too.

:EDIT:

For FAR more detailed information google "Xbox 360 Error Codes Explained"

Thanks. :)

He doesnt seen the know what error code it gave him ...

He seems to think it was E7 ... And E7 doesnt seem to exsist ??

it's the hard drive. first thing to do is make sure the 360 works without the hard drive, just to make sure.

if it's under a year old the shop he got it from should just swap the hard drive for him if they're half decent.

Yeah he only got ot for chirstmas :)

it works now with the hard disk atteched no problems just when he booted it up this morning the red light came on :)

Sounds like E74. Which is what I had. Same quadrant. E74 means the Scaler chip on the GPU is knackered. If it's less than 1 year old it's covered under the standard warranty. If it's more than 1 year old he's screwed.

So its dying slowly?

Thanks david

Just got an E74 this morning after nearly 2 years of gaming.

Gutted as I didn't really use it that much so can't see why it got it, it was playing fine yesterday.

Dunno whether to just buy a new core or get this one repaired via other means (it's not under warrenty).

Which 360's are the best to buy nowadays :(

Any of them as long as you make sure it has a 175w PSU (you can check the barcode sticker on the box).

The 175w machines use the new falcon chipset (65nm CPU) and has a redesigned heat sink clamp I believe and as a result has a lot less problems than previous revisions.

My cousins xbox has just got one red light

Is is Dying a slow and painfull death?

That what happened to mine about 5 weeks ago. It was sent under warrenty to MS and the repaired it. They said in the letter on return it was a motherboard failure.
