How far do you think graphics will increase in 12months?

there seems to have just been a boom in it with crysis and others demanding better cards....

is it worth investing now in a newer card or will there be another boom and better cards released.

basically i can hold onto my GTS for a while till its a good time to upgrade wen i wont need to upgrade for a while.

Hope someone understands :-)

Any Opinions?

more powerful that current high-end hardware, around twice as powerful especally if the current ATi range is anything to go by, as a benchmark for future releases

ahh right so am better holding out for a while longer... my GTS seems to be coping with most games up to now just not on a maxed out level but on full res.

Just been looking into clocking it, but not getting very far i used riva and after clicking apply the clock speed didnt budge?!

Yeah probably 150/200% as said. Hold onto your card you're happy, maybe look for an upgrade Q1/early Q2 2009.

Ohh, quarter one and quarter two of the year, often pc hardware releases get talked about in terms of them.

unless your card isnt playing what you want smooth then dont bother upgrading. its the same with everything though. Always something bigger and better around the corner.

yeah i suppose ... wen something is released that my card strugles on, al upgrade then.

al have a go at clocking this first.... i have clocked before but this dont wanna work, ha ?

what res do you game on?

stick with what you have I say... wait until next year when the new nvidia 40 or 45nm cards are released.

Not long ago there was talk of ATi's RV870 GPU codenamed "Lil' Dragon".

It's been confirmed as going straight to 40nm, which means they could probably keep the crappy fan profiles they have now and it'll only get to 70C load! ;)

I believe it's slated for Q2 2009. So by end o' June *looks at watch*

Personally am more concerned wether any games will be produced that will actually use,to good effect, the extra horsepower.

So many copies/clones of console games are appearing.

Yeah i know know what you mean by this....

also the mention of fan profiles... anyone know were i can find sum for rivatuner for my GFX card i looked quite hard but nothing and i hav it set to 85% all the time to keep it cool for game time.

Lil dragon is supposed to come in early 2009, not a big jump from RV770, more likely to be cheaper though.

It is a huge jump, the decreased power consumption will bring graphics cards towards something that is realistic again. Don't mistake small speed increases for small technological advancements, 40nm on GPU's is awesome, no more stupid 2 x PCI-E plugs on one card.

i meant speed wise obviously. They will be using less power, but trust me, you will need the two plugs for the X2s, and asingle plug for the standard cards.

Only mainstream GPUs are without the extra plugs. Plugs are here to stay as it is accepted by high end users

I'm guessing around 30% increase in speed, and around 30% less power (with new 40nm process).

Think how much the current 'new' gen cards perform agains the 'old' tech 8800's. And that was 4 years worth of development.

I really cant see big speed increases, just price drops :)

I would say 30-50% increase. I have the 1gb 4870, so I wont be upgrading till something comes out with at least 100% increase over my card. So I am safe for 2 years at least I would say :)

Does moores law not apply to gfx cards? If it does then 18 months and power should have doubled.
