1 year from now.

My guess would be around 30%-50% faster with (hopefully) around the same power requirements.

Power usage for graphics card is getting quite ridiculous :(

unless your card isnt playing what you want smooth then dont bother upgrading. its the same with everything though. Always something bigger and better around the corner.

I'd agree with this, i have my 3870x2 and it easily copes with everything i have on pretty much max detail @ 1680x1050. Was very tempted when the 4870 came out to upgrade, but couldnt really justify the extra outlay and the loss i would make on the x2.

Have just bought CoD 4 ( i know) and think it looks fantastic graphics-wise and runs really smooth. Maybe Jan-Feb time next year i will think about upgrading again, but will see what sort of games will warrant it.

Why 20 months? Something special about 20 months? Why not 24?

The next card I get will probably be a 2nd generation dx11 card. Usually the first gen dx cards cant handle the dx its capable of.

I think the 5850 might be my next purchase. I find as the years go on that you can get away with spending less on a graphics card and still be able to play most games with high settings. Of course there are still £300+++ cards but thats just because there is a market for people who will pay that much.

This raises the question - Will anyone, anywhere ever make a card capable of running FSX on high settings at high resolutions? Running that game with a smooth FPS must be like unearthing the Holy Grail.

I normally try and skip a generation - much better on the wallet :)

GF2 Ultra
GF4 4800SE
ATI X850XTX
ATI 1900XT
G92 8800GTS

ps3ud0

i either skip a generation, or wait till I cant play what i want at a decent enough FPS. Although as I have started having more and more disposable income, what i accept as a decent FPS has gradually gone up and up as I have got used to playing at 60/90fps instead of 30fps

Larabee dominating the market & Nvidia/ATi out of Business :p

You had to ask me - the ultimate pessimist ;)
