£10,000 Saloon Ideas

£10k is enough cash to buy a tidy example of just about any car from the last 10 years, taking into account a balance of age and mileage....
...why, why, why drop an additional £2k on something as dull and lame as a 1.6TDI Passat?

Motors has managed to drop a combined £20k on a rickety X Type and a Passat within a week! Eurgh.

£30 car tax? Thats £12,000 well spent.

btw: It wont do 70mpg very often. It's 1500kg of car!

and looking at that Honest John list that someone posted further up, it barely does any better in the real world than the much more powerful bluemotion engines. :(

Having driven a 1.6tdi ecomotive seat leon all last week, in a car far smaller, I'd imagine the passat being pretty awful, especially considering I was trying my best to get near to the mpg figures seat say the car would get, and getting no where near them!

The 2.0TDi will do 62/63mpg if you drive sensibly and its not so slow as the 1.6. One of my customers has the 2.0 and he says he can get 800 miles to a tank.

Wow, a random list of cars. Useful.

BMW 335i M Sport
Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe
Mercedes S320 CDI
Ford Transit Connect
VW Polo 1.4 TSI

Lol the "Ford Transit Connect" got me.

Anyway, 12000 finest English pounds spent on 1600cc's of the worst, slowest, dagiest, overpriced German engine.

I am disappoint. And to only do 15k miles a year in? Son, i am disappoint.

£12k spent to acheive £30 car tax and whatever MPG figures they make up, I'm crap at maths but even I know that doesnt make sense

It seems as though a lot of people are doing exactly what you're doing though, makes me wonder if there is something in the water at the moment

Bah...should have said man.

Would have sold you my A4 S-Line (56 Reg) for £12k. It is a Saloon, comfy to drive and...

Would have provided FREE road tax for 4 years, and it does 50mpg.

Did any mention a 159?, guess it's to late now anyhows he got the 1.6, personally i would have gone for a slighter bigger more powerful engine but if the OP is not bothered about a 1.6 lugging around one and a half tons then i guess it makes sense
