10.4a Preview cats (21/04/2010)

Been out for a while now, a week I think.

Following Terry (Catalyst Product Management) gives you a good headsup on when new drivers come out:

http://twitter.com/catalystmaker

wrong, his post was 44 mins ago lol. The 10.4 preview are BEFORE these in driver version and only have the faster loading times for 5xxx series cards in BFBC2, these ones however support the rest of the product range.

True, but who said it is that kind of speed! ;)

Yeah not tried them out myself, but I'm sure if there were more changes they'd make a song and dance about it!

They never do though lol. The 10.3 was the only driver I can remember from recent times where they actually did do the whole song and dance routine with. The opengl 4.0 drivers have far better metro 2033 performance than all other sets but they never mentioned it lol.

Well, loaded these in, but get an error on bootup after windows starts:

"""The CCC is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adaptor. please update your ATI graphics driver or enable your ATI adaptor using the Display manager""""

Also, Vantage Flickers dreadfully on Jane nash and secong gpu benchmark - but i've had that quite often since i've had my card a week ago, was ok last night though on official 10.3's

Vantage score run off these driver is (GPU): 19336 and ocerall 17833
(that's from 20021 (GPU; 19k "P" score) on 10.3...

PC specs:

[email protected], 4 gig ddr2 ram/7200 HD 32 cache, ATI XFX 5970 at stock settings.......

Something not right here.....

Definately sure you uninstalled the last set properly as that error basically says you didnt :P

@Speed - sadly mate its the d3d file which is the optimised one for metro2033 in the ogl4 sets so you have to put the whole package on im affraid. That set also has really dodgy 2d problems as well so have a play with the newer sets first! I'd personally try out the 10.x drivers I put on here about a week ago as those still have the latest build for d3d and opengl so may be better for metro.

Which beta's? When I tried to install the 10.4's over my 10.5 betas it said that the driver was older than the 10.5 betas?

10.x - newer than 10.5 beta's and I made a thread with them in about a week ago (maybe 2). The build version on the files is vastly higher than anything else out at the moment but they aren't performance drivers, more IQ instead (probably a firegl beta)

Ah thanks for that. I missed those being posted. It was the 10.x bit which confused me. I thought you had put that as you couldn't remember the exact number ;)

Hehe well I could guess but it would be pretty pointless to do so. Supposedly they are a 10.6 alpha but who knows. The build version on them is 8.74 which is vastly newer compared to any of the current offerings. The latest official driver (these 10.4a) are 8.723 so its hard to say really lol.

LOL,

anyway, just spent the last 30mins sorting this mess out.

I used the ATI uninstall manager to remove existing 10.4 hotfix.

Rebooted

ran driver sweeper and rebooted.

after reboot windows decided to install some drivers, so I ran driver sweeper again and rebooted.

This time windows did not install any drivers so I ran the install for the 10.4 hotfix.

Rebooted.

The driver version is now showing 8.723.5.0 dated 19/04/10 which gave me confidence and the CCC is installed this time.

used BC2 launcher set everything on high and DX10.

loaded up BFBC2 and went onto an empty server..............

16 seconds to get onto the map from clicking on the server...

Happy days.

came out and tried a busy server and went on in 14 seconds.

all good in the end.

So, don't read the instructions, uninstall through control panel, use driver sweeper untill it reports no ati stuff and whack on the 10.4 hotfix.
:D:D:D

In bold is where you went wrong :P

You never use driverclean to get rid of ATI files as you end up deleting system32 w7 files with it which then cause your system to have a hissy fit. Also you should have installed the new set of drivers BEFORE restarting the first time and you wouldn't have had any of those problems :P
