10.5.4 update causing stack issues

I've finally got around to updating to 10.5.4, but it seems that it's made stack opening about 10,000 times less smooth. If I'm lucky I see a frame of it midway through opening then the full open stack appears, otherwise there's just a pause then the opened stack is there. It's really annoying me.

It's most pronounced in Grid mode, but it's noticeable in fan and list mode too.

Any ideas on how to fix it to bring it back to it's 10.5.3 responsiveness?

Ahaa, nevermind I've sorted it. For some reason quartz extreme had become disabled. re-enabled it and job's a goodun.

The bit which does all the graphics acceleration.

Go to System Profiler, Hardware and Graphics/Displays. It will show there whether it's supported etc.
