10.6.8 Update

Not a lot, mainly prep for Lion afaik.

The 10.6.8 update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes that:

Enhance the Mac App Store to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion
Resolve an issue that may cause Preview to unexpectedly quit
Improve support for IPv6
Improve VPN reliability
Identify and remove known variants of Mac Defender

It's fixed the minor Spotlight issue I had where certain files weren't being found.

Hmm, if I have had the previous hit & miss TRIM patch applied before this update, should I now go and disable it though the application, or would that then ruin the 10.6.8 enabling of TRIM?

I should have thought of this. :(
Currently says TRIM isn't supported... Gah!

To be honest, a ball ache is might be but...I'd be tempted to do a fresh wipe and a fresh install of SL with the combo 10.6.8 update in one hit!

The question remains though if TRIM actually adds to performance or just does what it says on the tin and helps keep the drive storage health going longer.

TRIM support is now active for all!

I read somewhere (i can't remember where exactly) that this only enabled TRIM on all Apple supplied SSDs and not any 3rd party ones. Previously a slightly modified version 10.6.6 came with an SSD built Mac which enabled TRIM by default but upgrading would remove this. 10.6.8 fixes that but again only on Apple supplied SSDs

Since doing this update, my MBP was running like a dog no idea why until I read this thread about TRIM. It was disabled as I had previously enabled it before on some website (running OCZ 2SE). Just re enabled it with that Trim enabler and its sped up.

Ah I see, well that would make sense then since I knew they'd modified the 10.6.6, still though it should help give a health boost to those drives, especially in MB Air's new/old. I'm intrigued to see if there is an performance boost.

Hmmm well probably the case above that Apple are doing it for their own SSD's.

We need some stats, did you run a test before and after TRIM on your custom SSD?
