10.9 Cat's out today?

what's the overscan bug?

I'm having a problem with my HD 4870

I'm playing a game and suddenly everything freezes. Like I'll have all these rectangles on my screen or everything turns green. I then have to manually reboot

Might be artifacting which means that your card is most likely dying or in need of some love (cleand dust from fan/check temps etc).

Does this happen all the time or only during games? If only in games try updating drivers or if the latest drivers try rolling back?

I actually quite like the 10.8 driver. It has fixed crossfire support for arma2oa, and gta4 works pretty well.

Only issues I have are with the overscan bug on my TV, and the HDR is broken in fallout 3 (but every version seems to have this problem :()

On a slight different note my ccc is showing catalyst version 10.8. Last time I was running 10.2. So did it download the latest version automatically ? I don't remember installing 10.8 myself.

I believe Im still running 10.4 and have no issues - why does everyone think its a necessity to upgrade to the latest drivers. I come from the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" stable and this applies to all my system drivers, I swear the time ive saved by not fannying around changing drivers/rolling back etc more than makes up for the 3.2214 fps increase that I may get by upgrading my software.

When you're getting 122fps+ is that 3fps really necessary? I thnk not.

Same here, If it works then stick with it.

Enough spending time fiddling around with drivers, cleaning everything etc... All unnecessary if it works

Yep im still on 10.4a driver. The last few have been rubbish for my 4870x2.
Yeah but according to amd.ati the incremental Catalyst 10.8b hotfix drivers provide a specific fix for amd's dual gpu cards, namely the 4870X2 and 4850X2 under Windows Vista and Windows 7. Apparently the cards weren't properly using both GPUs  :D, seriously hamstringing performance in certain games. The update should fix that issue, getting the most out of the hardware and putting both cores back to work. So what does one do?.
