Samsung have announced a cameraphone with a 10MP camera link...

OK, so cameraphones are getting pretty impressive these days - just look at the K750i - but 10MP? Is this not a bit excessive? Whilst this cameraphone can likely produce impressive images (as phones go) would it not be able to produce similar results at the levels of 3MP, or even lower?

I guess it's just Samsung playing on the market, and how people assume higher MP = better :/

10MP is just willy waving. Apart from the fact that image quality on a CCD that small is likely to be rubbish, how big will the images be? Let's hope they decide to combine the hard drive and the phone into one camera!

That thing must be even more noisy than a Nikon ;)

As someone pointed out its just one upmanship. I doubt that will get released to the general public soon. The limiting factor on those phones isn't sensor resolution, its going to be sensor size and the lens.

Camera phones have no room for optical zoom so they throw pixels at them. This allows digital zoom/or cropping to have high enough resolution to give reasonable results.
It has an optical zoom.

I use both systems, I eat my words of yesteryear about nikon and bad rep because they are just as good as Canon now in the midrange dslr group.

thats pretty impressive thought. But they should have incorporated some sort of lens cover, that would get cained in my pocket.

I want one whether its willy waving or not. NOW!!!!

It does have a cover, an eyris style door that closes over the lens element like the same style used on compact digitals lenses when you turn them off.

It looks more like a Digi cam with a phone stuck on the back.
I'd rather get a smaller phone and a decent 'credit card' size camera

Personally I think these new higher MP phones are total bs because these new futures push the price of the phone by at least +£100-150 more. (sim-free/payg)

so they basically selling some cheap camera inside a phone for £150. I would much rather have a 4mp camera and phone without camera.
