Hi,

im running 2 hard drives, 1 ata with vista on it and 1 ide with xp on it. There has been problems as after the xp install vista stopped working. Now with a reformat and fresh vista install, vista works, xp doesnt!

However - when i boot the pc, everything seems very slow. I get the post screen, then it goes to a black screen for 5minutes! then the vista load bar comes up but seems to load for a further 5 minutes!

can anyone identify the problem? Is it hardware or software?
should i remove the ide and if anything improves?

thanks for your time. j

P.s Once im in vista it runs quite smoothly though

Your hard drive hasn't reverted to PIO only mode has it? Check it in device manager.

You will need to check the settings, they should be listed under ATA/IDE controllers or something similar.

hi,

i took out the ide drive completely and just ran the main ata with the vista install. Much quicker - back to normal i think.

there must have been a conflict between the two drives - my fault, i didnt follow any guide to dual booting!

by the way - as ive found out it was the drive making the problem. the other thing i have had recently is the cmos reset itself randomly. it seems a lot to do with turning the computer power supply button off and detaching the cable.

OR... could the hard drives have helped cause this problem to?
