So a ten year refresh, my last system was bought from here, I would have loved for OCUK to have my money but I guess they didnt want it, I did order the DDR4 from here so fantastic!
Did order a 3950x but whilst I was waiting for 2nd layer security the item I had in my basket was sold to some one else, go figure!
So I now have a lapped i7 920 @ 4ghz, Gigabyte ex58-ud5 and 12gb 1600 mhz DDR3 that is obsolete!
Now I just need an AM4 mounting kit from Noctua and i'm done!
I'm planning to upgrade the GFX later, the THICC III is about 4% slower than a 2070 Super but £200 less, £340 cheaper than a 2080 Super which is only 15% faster at 4K, law of diminishing returns and FPS per pound says is the best card until next round of Nvidia and Radeon's
I started on Intel with a Pentium 333mhz then a 400mhz, then an Athlon Thunderbird 1 ghz, then an Athlon XP 2500+ overclocked to Xp3200+ speeds, did the same with AMD Radeon 9800 Pro which required a bios flash but then become a 9800 XT provided you fitted an a better fan unit. That lasted a few years then bought an overclocked Q6600 for a year or two before I bought my i7. I have upgrade the graphics card a few times 2 x XFX 6800 GT, Hd5850 then 2 x HD 5850, Nvidia 970, Nvidia 1070.
I always though AMD was great but it went down hill from the Athlon XP 3200+
I reckon I must get at least a 4x boost in CPU plus NV Me, SATA 6 and some power savings!
Yes i am reminiscing but I think that's good!
