I'm currently using an old Saphire x700, mostly for BF2, but I recently started playing with Oblivion and the card is really struggling, so it's time to upgrade. Any recommendations on a sub-£100 pci-e card? Will any of the current sub-£100 cards offer that much better performance than the X700?

Cheers.

7600gt

/edit - actually they're just a little over your budget, it'd have to be the 7600GS to come in at under £100. The other option being the x1600xt, but I "think" the 7600gs should be the better of those two options?!?!

If OcUK get in the 7300GT's with GDDR3 memory, that will be the way to go.

Yeah I saw that thread - they do look like they'll be great cards for the money!! Would fit his budget nicely!

And he'd be left with some change too! It's a win win type card! :D

Although, usually the first thing that's done is a test against the card, all that will be seen is minimal improvements. But...in light of the cost and the product itself, it's certainly worth it.

Thanks for advice - I've just put an order in for the 7600GT - £17 over budget, but probably worth it I reckon. Looking forward to seeing Oblivion with HDR switched on.

Good stuff! :)

I'm sure you'll love it!!

Had been thinking about one of them myself - but seeing as I might be upgrading to a 20" WS TFT/LCD then I'll probably need to spend a bit more in order to play at 1680x1050 with high settings.

But for 1280x1024 and below, that card should pretty much hold anything that you throw at it :) Certainly in your price range it's the best option!

I use a 21 inch Sony Trinitron monitor - got it off eBay for £40. Excellent image quality, big screen, you don't need to worry about whether you can run games in native resolution, because it's a CRT.

People don't want them any more because everybody prefers flat-panels, so you can pick them up dirt-cheap. Takes up a bit of space on the desk, but for the price I'm not complaining.

same here i use a dell 21 inch crt , sony trinitron tube. excellent flat monitor which i got free from work since they were replacing them all with tft's. image quality can;t be beat and response time no tft can match. :D

best of all i can run any resolutions like you since there is no native rez penalty.
