My friend wants to get his young lad a pc for christmas, now unfortunatly i have used nearly all my spare parts to build a pc for my daughter!

So is it even possible to build something that would play games such as minecraft, wow, fallout (all low 1080), h1z1 and grid autosport.

i have already to give him, a fractal case, a corsair 350w psu, cd drive, sata cables, 120mm corsair fans, 2gb single stick ddr3 dominator ram and a coolermaster hyper 212 still in box he can have for free.

I dont have a spare sata drive either but have found many ide drives lying around i had no idea i had!

So is there a apu and board bundle that could get get him going with the intention if he likes it to throw in a card like a 960 or second hand 280x at a later date (birthdays etc)? Or is there an intel cpu and board i can get and maybe try get a seconds hand 750?

help!

You'll need to go second hand.

Even AM1 comes out at £93 with a HDD and that'll run like a dog on 2Gb ram. Will you be needing a copy of Windows as well?

Also... by Fallout do you mean Fallout 4? The minimum specs on it are fairly high, £100 even second hand might be a struggle.

Minecraft yes, Wow maybe, FO4... nope

Saw a youtube video of FA 4 on lowest settings (and after turning a few things off in the .ini files) you can get it running at 15-25 fps with hd4400. So i suppose it is feasible if you are willing to up the budget, go second hand and make some tweaks to the config files of the game. Didn't look playable to my eyes but i am sure i struggled with some pretty horrible fps when i was younger and didnt have a choice.

i'll see what i can buy second hand, cpu, mobo and a gpu needed for £100

ive got a 500gb sata drive from my father and i can get another 2gb ddr cheap im sure

MM has a 2500k and board for £100 together atm. Add a low end second hand GPU and you are good to go then. I wouldnt go much lower than that in terms of performance, unless you are willing to cross FA4 from the list.

I hear WoW is a pretty horribly threaded game (not surprised considering how long its been going) so settling for a APU from AMD might be a bad idea, could see FPS drop to nothing on big player raids/towns

Certainly, a 2500k + 7970 was a dream combo for single GPU set ups not long ago and will be great for a few more years if the kid is willing to turn graphics down a bit.

hello, for that budget you will certainly be best off used, you can buy q6600 builds for that much or less or an AMD equivalent or a dual core of some kind be it 1150 or older.

as far as new is concerned this would be a contender, how much of one is down to what it could play to your satisfactory.

not bad to get him going, really going to look into the second hand scene, shame i can't see the MM for the 2500k, i have that chip myself so know it'll be fine for him.

So much doom and gloom in this thread!

You can easily get yourself a core 2 quad (Q6600 minimum), mobo, memory, and a GPU such as a 560 Ti for £100 second hand, and it'll manage Fallout 4:
