100% cpu usage when playing hl2

Evening,

i havent played many games for a while but recently decided to reinstall steam. every time i load up into half life 2 deathmatch or any of the other games in steam i always get 100% cpu useage.

so far i have done the following to try and remedy this....

update all drivers. all steam updates. i have just formatted and reinstalled just the operating system, drivers and steam and things are still the same???? :confused:

can anyone help with this.

I fail to see the problem... of course you should have 100% CPU usage if you're running a game. It's only if you have a dual-core CPU that I'd think something was off.

Exactly, having 100% usage for a game is what you want. Unless you're not telling us something.

that game uses CPU a lot its normal

source is CPU intensive

Most games run in a simple loop, and will eat 100% of a cpu's processing time on a single core. On a Hyperthreading CPU, or true dual core, it will use 50% of the total available.

Unfortunalty task manager is unable to tell when the cpu is really overworked, or simply sitting in the games main loop.
