Very strange problem this one, and there seems to be a million different causes for it - a friend of mine was having this trouble for ages so in the end she reformated and the problem persisted - so its not really a malware problem or the like as that should have solved it.

Its an Acer Aspire 3100 and has an Xpress 1100 ATI onboard graphics card - my first thought was that her graphics card might be dead, but she can run WoW and stuff, even if it jerks a whole lot.

I'm thinking the CPU is trying to compensate for the graphics card in some way or another? Any ideas on things tat could be the problem?

All flash videos, yes.

Firefox or IE.

Latest version of flash.

Not sure what processor, but whichever came with the aspire 3100 at least. edit -- think its a mobile sempron.

On World of warcraft the CPU usage slowly increases to 100% too, but with flash videos its pretty much instant

And to add, it used to work fine in the past - it just stopped working all of a sudden.

That is with only TeamViewer, MSN and Teamspeak running. Surely something is slightly off there!?

In the past i've had the same problem with flash 10, quite a few threads about it on the adobe forums. Since i've gone to windows 7, i've not had the problem (touch wood)

IIRC flash is played entirely by the CPU normally. Could be it's just not fast enough?

Edit: Noticed it used to work. Could then mean an update to the Flash player means it needs more CPU cycles for some reason.
Also worth going to the processes tab and see what is eating it just in case it's something random like your virus scanner :p

Whichever program is running the CPU creeps up, i'm watching it now and MSN creeps up to 40-50% even, which is insane for MSN considering! But the same happens for WoW, Firefox and whatever else too eventually.

Just noticed she has 40-50% DPC's and so on, which seems a little odd

Ouch, downloaded speedfan - the CPU is running at 800mhz and at a constant 80degrees, so its throttling a fair bit.

I reckon the heatsink has come loose or the fan has stopped working. Too scared to suggest she should open it up :P

I find Flash a pain, it uses a lot of CPU on my Core 2 Duo 2Ghz laptop so I'm not surprised its taxing whatever that is at 800mhz. Does the machine actually get really hot to touch? Is it still under warranty?
