Sorry if this is a noobish question, but why is it that running Prime95 small FFTs makes my CPU run a good 10C hotter than large FFTs or blend? The CPU usage is 100% in both cases, so why should the temperature be different?

You can actually run the cpu at 114% with a program called TAT, but it's not meant for OC testing.

No idea what goes on inside though

Intel inside, noob outside. :D

I think that it is something to do with in small FFT, the cpu cache is used instead of the ram in the large FFT/Blend test. As a result the CPU will get hotter, even though both tests will 100% ultilise available cores.

In terms of testing OC, which of the small FFT/large FFT/ Blend is best to use. I've always used the small FFT when testing CPU OC and Blen when testing Mem OC. Is this correct?

Pretty much how I use them.

If Small FFT is broken and Blend runs, it's yer CPU at fault, and if Blend fails and Small FFT runs, your RAM probably needs attention.
