Ok guys

1 x CPU for £100... off you go - please state products only - limit comments and nothing over £110.

Thanks in advance

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-165-AM) @ £99.82
Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz (533FSB) - Retail (CP-116-IN) @ £85.72

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-120-AM) £111.57

I know, over £110 but MEH.

The thing is if he said max £110 which I believe he can stretch the extra £1 , but postage is £8 on top so I think it will have to be a cpu just above £100.

But if you can stretch the £8-9 its well worth it for the Amd 4000+ 64

Depends what you have now doesn't it really? I mean, do you want to shell out for a new MB and RAM?

Its for my friend, he has an Athlon 1400 so MB, RAM, GFX the lot! He has budgeted 100 for CPU.

I reckon if he's upgrading from that, he's the sort that when he upgrades does the WHOLE lot. I'd go for 939 based on this assumption, as by the time he comes to buy again AM2 will be dead aswell.

But what about a board that supports AM2 and 939?

Even better :p

Get 939 now due to the low price, then upgrade later once AM2 has come down in price. That's actually a really good idea.

Ok so get a 3200 for £65 now instead of a AM2 3800 for £99? Then when AM2 is £65 sell the 3200 for say £30?

Hmmm loose £35 on the 3200 and pay another £65 out on the AM2? Total cost of around £100? Why not buy the AM2 now and have the better cpu now and save the hassel of having to sell the 3200 later!!!???

Seems odd!

Hows about the 939 3700 san diego, available at circa £92 from all good retailers and some bad ones too?

Oh, or you could buy it second hand from fleabay from a dodgy geezer for £170 and pay £20 p&p, up to you really...
