Haven't posted anything in here for a while but though any onboard video fans on here might like this ..

It's the Birkett 6Hr Relay. If you don't know what it is it's a 6hr Realy Race for teams of a minimum of 4 drivers/cars and maximum of 6 drivers/cars. It's run on the Silvertstone GP Circuit but with the Historic Link that cuts out Vale. This replaces perhaps the worst corner on the GP Circuit with IMO the best sequence of corners.

You can run pretty much anything as long as it's race legal. Last year I had quite a battle with a 1938 Alard, occasionally interupted by a passing Radical. Nothing quite as old this year but lots of 50s and 60s stuff mixed with a few Radical and Sakers, lots of Caterhams and Locosts and pretty much everything in between.

It's a handicap race and there are 3-4 class also handicapped. These are worked out based on laptimes submitted by each driver/car for either this circuit or others and they are constantly updated throughout the race (so no point in sandbagging). Yes, it's tough to work out where you are but as long as you are fairly truthful you can keep track, we were running 2nd for most of the race before a fuel problem (ran out on track) and a bad SC call dropped us to 4th.

I cut out all the less exciting stuff but still left with 28mins of action. Yes, it's long but if you don't watch any more it's worth watching the firsdt 2:10 up to the first collision, and maybe the last 20 secs where I get my own back ;-)

The car I was driving was a Mk2 MR2 (see below)

Looks like a lot of fun, but some seriously sketchy driving on the opening laps. I don't know if I would fancy running in such a large field of mixed classes, too much potential for carnage.

I think it only takes one or two (like the Civic) to cause problems, apart from him I think the race ettiquette was very good and most drivers understood that it was an endurance event.

That's true it only take one to spoil it for everyone. I only watched the first two laps so I'm sure that it settled down once the field spread itself out.

Interesting stuff. Cars that corner more slowly produce better racing (not to mention multiple classes and rain livening things up). :)

Brilliant video, reminds me of my motorsport days, more please. That civic driver was getting a little bit to 'excited' I think...

I think the varied field made it very interesting, if you can't contend with them then you probably shouldn't be running to be fair.
