100% ram useage problem

I have a problem i hope someone has the answer for. When i have a rar file lets say 6 gig like game demos or manga tv eps i downloaded my memory useage goes up to 100% when it has extracted about 50% and my pc just starts to lock up so i can't do anything on my pc until it has finished and it takes ages to extract. I have 4gig of memory with vista 64 so any info would be great, it never did this before and i formated to see if it was that but still does it.

Try turning off superfetch and see if it still happens

Disabling superfetch made no difference as my ram still goes to 100% usage when extracting large files from winrar. I even tried winzip and that still did it so i have not got a clue why it would start doing this.

try 7zip for extracting

press F9, so you get two windows and extract from one to the other (don't drag to explorer)

also, disable AV and go into Windows Defender, Tools, Options, and untick 'Real-time protection' when doing it.
