£100 upgrade for older system

I have quite an old system, still using lga775. I have the following:

Motherboard is an Asus p5q pro
4gb of DDR2 ram
An ancient but loyal dual core E2180 @2.8Ghz
512mb 4850

Now my system used to be fine for my needs, but since I upgraded my monitor to 1980x1080 I've had to whack the graphics way down on any games.

I don't play on many games anymore, bar TF2, however even that can have really bad bouts of lag. However the new hitman has got my attention, after loving every game in the series. Would a sub £100 graphics card be worth it?- I really dont have the money or time to overhaul my whole computer.

Would a new graphics card just be horrendously bottlenecked by the rest of the system?

a used 5870 would be fine imo,

i dont thinkso,either card would do,

theres a 6950 in the mm right now for £100 btw

cheers, yeh I saw that, i'l think about getting that or scoping out a 6870 for a bit cheaper

I've owned a 5870,it handled everything,it did struggle on bf3 on ultra but wasn't too bad,around 40fps
