100% usage on all cores for about minute, then its gona for 15mins?

Like week ago started to get these weird lag spikes when all cores goes up to 100%, eventho I dont know what's wrong could be there, I did AddonProfiler to check if maybe WoW addon doing tricks with PC, but no. Did full scan and vulnerabilty test to check if something is eating my PC (virus), but nothing found, I'm using KIS - Kaspersky Internet Security 2011...

I'm on Windows 7 x64 SP1 (recently updated)
...also recently bought GTX 480, using stables drivers, since last drivers doing weird artifacts sometimes and doing screen fling (or flashing for 3 sec and then gona for a while)
...any possible way to check (dump or log) for like 15-30min to check what's doing that to my PC, well WoW process is taking 35% of total cores and when that 100% lag goes up, then WoW PC usage is still at 30-35%...
...help.
 
Kaspersky's your problem.
it's running a scan constantly, which is casuing CPU usage to be at constant 100%

I used to use Kaspersky and on my quad it slow'd it down terribly, removed and performance is back.
At work the laptops we esupport have it on there and on some machines can casue complete slow downs, remove it and there is an improvement straight away
 
yeah indeed, Kaspersky is an issue here, but why it wasnt problem week ago, since last update something changed on it? can you recommend good antivirus what doesn't eats your whole computer alive?
 
AVG scares me becouse is poor antivirus, gona try some other... nkata, is that essentional uatomaticly installed in PC or can I somehow run it manually to scan or it's just Windows Defender?
 
kaspersky has gone. really crap.. i recenntly put demo trail to test new interface. an 1st boot it crashed my pc an really slowed my pc down.. although i have quad core 8gb ram. use avast, avira or microsft security essionials
 
Just kicked out AVG, going to give Avira a go now.

At any rate it can't be any worse.

Didn't try to foist any crapware on me with obscured tickboxes which is a good start.
 
Just for some balance, I've had Kaspersky for years now, on 3 different pcs & currently on an old laptop and I've never had cause for complaint so far, runs like a dream on current pc (see sig).

When did SP1 get installed, a week ago? :)
 
I've always found avira to be pretty good, a few false alarms now and again, but better than missing a threat.

worst thing about the free version is the pop ups when it updates, as they pull you out of full screen. there are ways to block the pop-up, but technically that is a breach of their EULA
