100 year old whiskey

FOR those who like their dram chilled, it's perfect. A whisky that sustained explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole a century ago has been drilled out of the Antarctic ice.

Christ, I'd love a bottle but I don't think I could bring myself to drink it. Too valuable and rare.

Having lived in a bottle (instead of an oak cask) for 100 years, they won't have matured any more than when they were bottled.

As I understand it, the excitement is that the reciepe could be reconstituted by analysing the contents, as it has been lost in the 100 years since this event.

My dad works for a distillery and he gets really fancy whisky for free all the time that we inevitably always end off drinking when I go up to visit, he came back from a business trip in korea with a whiskey (they export it there) that was like 50 years old, in a seriously fancy bottle in some kind of blue velvet bag. We got tanked on a bog standard bottle of paddy, and feeling the thirst for more alcohol decided whisky was for drinking and not looking at and drank the fancy stuff too.

It was awesome but kind of regretted drinking it the next day haha

Drinking good whisky when already bladdered is a real waste

Start off on the good stuff, nice and slow, then pound down the dirty sassy liquor when the taste buds start to go
