So my friend is planning to move onto PC gaming, he needs something powerful which will play games at their highest quality and also record them and later upload them onto YouTube. He doesn't need a monitor or OS, he does need a decent keyboard and mouse to start off with which he'll later upgrade.

Should add that he currently has a pretty old and breaking macbook and is now also considering getting the new macbook, I have some convincing to do in order for him to choose a PC. The main use of his next machine is to edit and upload. Gaming was something I made him consider at the time when I posted this.

Your probably looking at an i5 build with 8gb of ram.

You should be able to shoehorn in a GTX970 at that budget as well.

At present all of that is £1050ish.

There are corners that could be cut but that is the sort of thing you should be looking at to get the most out of your money. Ram Can be upgraded at a later date if you need 16Gb. 8Gb should be more than enough for the minute.

Don't be tempted to cut corners on the CPU. The overclocking benefits of the i5 K series give you a lot of poke for your money.

The GTX970 is about right for the graphics as well.

If you are going to try shave off costs try get a second hand spinning hard disc, optical drive. Swap they keys to non mechanical ones, and the mouse to a cheaper one. You can also step down the case a little. But I like a nice case when your putting 1K into it. If you shave it you should be able to get £50-150 off that price.

Very nice.

@OP: Money can be saved on this assuming SLI isn't a future concern.
