So I've got about £1000 to put towards a new build (my first) that's going to be used primarily for programming but also for games. I don't really planning on overclocking so the stock cpu fan should suffice although I've tried to give myself that option in the future with the parts that I've chosen.
So here's what I've got so far:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £169.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £76.99
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £67.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £55.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK) £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Express Adapter (TL-WN881ND) £16.99
Total : £520.93 (includes shipping : ).

All I need now is a GPU, Bluray-RW (although possibly just DVD) and then of course the monitors (which I plan on spending about £200-£250 on).

So what do you guys think? I did originally have the 7850 in mind although I don't think they have it on here anymore?

Having seen how much difference a decent CPU cooler can make in terms of both temp and noise, I'd ALWAYS set aside £20 for an aftermarket cooler even if not overclocking. Cooler temps = longer life, less noise.

Thanks for the replies. To answer a couple of questions I plan on ripping my bluray collection so that's why the bluray drive is there, although like I said that isn't a lock. Also I plan on getting 2 monitors so is there any good £100-£120 monitors out there about 23"? And I suppose I could spend a little bit more on an aftermarket cooler if the benefits were there.

And also why the vulcan red ram over the orange? Isn't the orange faster and at a lower price?

120 a piece gets you one of those 23" LG IPS screens like LG 23EA63V

or the one above.

there sure are benefits of AM cooler - lower temps, lower noise, especially under load.
