First up, you want an AMD GPU. The HIS 7950 is cheaper (£185). Or better, a 7970 for £235ish.

I would get a 4770K instead. Perhaps get a cheaper cooler if you can't stretch the budget higher.

The GPU. If you can't push the budget for a 7970 you could save a bit on the case:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **FREE SHIPPING** £227.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
Total : £297.94 (includes shipping : FREE).

Would the 7970 reach arround 35-40fps at max settings ?

I'm not very keen on AMD builds, they seem to be for budget builds, is this true ?

This is pretty much what I built for friend recently. Don't listen to AMD fans, there's little difference between the cards and drivers are usually the issue, which changes at each release.

If you have had and like Nvidia stick with it. Some minor tweaks could be made to change a few pounds.

Andi.

Would you recommend the Asus 7970 rather than the 760 ?

No but then in my experience, which is quite lengthy, I have had less problems with Nvidia over the years.

Here's an interesting comparison http://www.hwcompare.com/14814/geforce-gtx-760-vs-radeon-hd-7970/

Long time since a similar nvidia card has consumed less power. But then the 760 is slightly cheaper so maybe look at a 770?

At the end of the day games seem to be more dependant on the GPU capability so that's where I'd spend the money.

thanks, i think 7970 is better value right now, it might even go down a bit more when the new AMD cards come out
