Looking to help a family member out who's current PC is a little bit 'tired'. I'm a few years out of touch with components so looking for a bit of advice! I have about £1k to spend on a new PC (no monitor or peripherals required) and something that can ideally handle the likes of Starfield and Payday3.

OCUK, show me what you can do :)

Do you need a case and a PSU?

I upgraded mine last month for the same reason, moving up to 1440p but didn't need a case or PSU but wanted a new monitor and managed to get a nice system that does a great job of Starfield (and many others) for £1200 (or just over with a new CPU waterblock). I followed the good advice here and go for the AM5 platform and a 67__Xt or 77__xt series GPU. I went for the 6750xt which seemed like better value in a good deal from a competitor.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,083.88 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Something like this - and if you shop around you can get under budget too

I would base the basic system around this solid choice with some potential tweaks:

You can really use the 7600(non X) and save £30 without any noticeable loss of performance (especially if tuned)
I would change the PSU to the MSI MPG A750GF UK PSU 750W, 80 Plus Gold certified, Fully Modular for an extra £10
I would change the RAM to Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C32 6000MHz for an extra £9 (C32 vs C40)

That is a good cooler but you can get most of the performance and claw back £15 with the Alpenfohn Dolomit Advanced 120mm ARGB CPU Cooler for £35

That makes about £1050. Should they be able to spare an extra £47, I would recommend doubling storage to Seagate FireCuda 520 2TB for £94
